Pokémon GO

I spent money and hours in creating my avatar and then Niantic decided we all wanted to look like gender-fluid manladies. I’m a WOMAN I dont look anything like the “updated” me! Did ANYONE ask for this?! I wish there was a zero-star option. I’ve also reached out to Niantic to refund people who bought clothes and poses. Why isn’t there the option to KEEP our avatars OR change them? This forced DEI change is disgusting. I don’t even want to open the game anymore.

The most recent update really ruined the character customization. As a petite male I feel like I have been forced out of being able to express who I am anymore. It’s like Pokemon company has said that I’m not allowed to be who I am. It’s still a fun game but I have been bullied out of it. Good bye Pogo

I’m truly upset that in changing the avatar models all of my saved outfits were deleted. This was years worth of combinations I will never be able to remember. Why on earth did the saved outfits get affected like this when the clothes clearly weren’t taken into consideration for the models? The clothes either disappear or clip through the model, hats and headbands warp the head, and you can quite literally see the crotch of anyone wearing a skirt. So again I’m asking- if clothes weren’t taken into consideration while creating the new models, then why are all my saved outfits just GONE.

After almost 8 years of having the same avatars in game; ones that countless people have spent real money on, curated outfits for, and spent hours styling to their liking, Niantic says screw all that. The original models have now been completely stripped from the game, and in their place is a new, uncanny valley abomination. If you’re someone who doesn’t want to look like an androgynous, pubescent child, then you’re out of luck. All the typically masculine or feminine traits for the previous models have been erased, and the new customization sliders aren’t even capable of accurately depicting either side of the spectrum. Some of this damage could have been mitigated if the older models were still able to be selected, or at least if they were one of the options on the new sliders, but no. If “inclusivity” was the goal in this update, it has dramatically failed at doing even that right. Female or female presenting players might just have it the worst. Although they are a lump of clay stuck somewhere in the middle, the new models still have decidedly more masculine features than feminine ones. All models now have large hands, gangly limbs, and elongated, boxy torsos. There are trans people who exist who don’t want to look androgynous/non-binary at all times. I know trans females who liked having the ability to have a character who looked how they wanted to or allowed them to feel cuter and more feminine than maybe they do/feel in real life. Now, everyone has the same form, but you can add weight, muscles or “chests” to them and apparently that’s good enough for Niantic. For an update aimed at getting players to return to the game after previous updates forced mass exoduses of the player base, this could not possibly do more harm than it is now. If anything, more people are leaving now, because who wants to play a game where they actively hate having to look at what their once stylish, attractive, cute, cool characters have become? On top of that, all the saved outfits people spent time and money on creating were deleted from user accounts. If that wasn’t enough, all the clothing items they spent money on now look terrible on the new models they were not made for. Many clip through the models or other clothing or accessory items now. Graphical quality has taken a huge hit, as items designed for one model are now being stretched over the new one, and Niantic has clearly taken no time to address this and make items look like they fit all of the new customization options they shoehorned in. I have never in my life seen a game release so many backwards-thinking updates in a row, but Niantic seems determined to turn its player base against them, and doubling down on every nonsensical, asinine decision they make, even when players voice their opinions otherwise. For a company with the backing of one of the most successful and lucrative ip’s to ever exist, it’s beyond belief just how little care and consideration for both its source and its consumers goes into making this game. This was not what anybody wanted, and the changes need to be reverted and reworked with the input of the community, but as we already know, Niantic will never listen to the people they claim to do this for.

So I like Pokémon I never played the red and blue games yet but I did play Pokémon emerald and I also really like fairy types. They’re my favorites and this game is a good way to collect Pokémon and pretend you are inside the Pokémon world.

The new visual updates are horrible. I can’t stand to look at him anymore, so I covered up the face and try not to look at it. Worst update the game has ever put out.

Pokémon, I am so sorry to say this because I love you so much but our relationship is falling apart and it’s not my fault. Pokémon has billions of dollars probably and this is how the avatars look in Pokémon go? The avatars look like they’re cross-dressers, they don’t look like women at all. They’re blocky and it seems like maybe there weren’t woman avatars to begin with, just male ones that are thinner or something. No shape at all. It makes me feel ugly. They are so ugly that I was waiting for the update to happen and I already had the update. After writing, I realize that I’m actually not too sorry and that you should be sorry instead, but I still “like” the game so four starts, but you’re not gonna get five stars.

Whiles there’s nothing wrong with inclusion, taking away options from those not participating in it is not the right call to make. Roll the avatars back, you’ll see some stars return.

Why is the game making me motion sick all of a sudden? I think I made the game playable again by turning off the “Native refresh rate” slider in options. I genuinely cannot play with this setting on. Also who thinks that these avatars were good? You had a ton of advanced feedback that they would be ill received. Just give me my old generic one back. If you're going to “improve” something it should actually be an improvement.
