Substack offers a wide variety of opinions from those we want to hear from and the ability to tune out the junk.
  • App is notorious for notification spam

Even after turning off all notifications in the app except Likes, Replies, and Mentions, the app still sends me notifications that I never agreed to receive.
  • Just another news feed

I got an email today from substack: $6 towards a musician I am interested in. From what I’ve understood, Substack is basically a subscription-based newsletter/forum/discord place. So I created an account, then logged in. It’s just a giant Trump vs Kamala flame war, post after post after post, after post. Just insane stuff, highlighting the worst of Americans. I never even made it to that poor musician’s page. Skip Substack, folks. It’s just more garbage social wars.
  • Maybe I’m missing something here

I’m having a hard time trying to navigate this app and I keep going to the website to view comments. If it’s a written post, there’s no problems. However, if it’s just a picture, I just have to go to the website instead. Clicking the picture just shows the picture. Clicking the comment button only allows you to make a comment. It’s the worst interface of any of the social media platforms that I’ve used.
  • Great platform, garbage app

Login is insanely buggy—picture an infinite loop of “unauthorized login” emails leading to timeouts. Not possible to manage paid subscriptions in the app (this, I assume, is to make sure Apple doesn’t get a cut). On some stacks, the app does not recognize that I paid for a subscription in my browser and only gives me access to free content—for paid content, I need to read in a browser. If I lock my phone for more than 5 seconds, the app closes my current reading session and sends me to the totally superfluous Twitter-clone feed, with no easy way to return to what I was reading. It’s such a shame that a great platform with so many great writers can’t get the basic user experience right.

Enjoy reading articles from a broad spectrum of intellectuals and the humorous and poignant sarcasm of the same. You can’t change or fix all the dilemmas but you can poke fun at everything!
  • UNSUBSCRIBE!

How many times does someone need to click Unsubscribe from emails before they actually stop receiving emails? I guess its more than 4. Not sticking around for the answer. Deleted my account and this garbage app.

Been seeing it listed by names of people of interest, those I’ve enjoyed their writing.
  • Manipulative & broken signup process

Signing up was tedious and never ending —quite literally. When I put my phone number in for confirmation of identity the app simply didn’t respond. I would add that the app is basically web pages making the experience less than optimal.
